Nose
The colour is russetmuscat and in the nose old dry sherry meets the fat Mortlach spirit with rather shy woods, a delicious combo no doubt. It needs quite a lot of breathing time which often happens with very old drams and I suggest to let it breath for at least 30 minutes. After that more spices and herbs join in, the waxes grow stronger and there are whiffs of a dunnage warehouse (earthy aromas).
Mouth/Palate
The taste is quite impressive for 40% abv only and nicely layered on both spirit-driven and wine-induced flavours. The wood is still rather shy which is fine in such a setting because the sweet impressions (sugars, fruits and wine) are subtle and delicious and do not overpower. All is nicely balanced and extremely quaffable.
Finish
The initial mouthfeel is warming and nicely coating without distracting moments. The finish is long and adds more chocolatey flavours without any distracting moments again.
